The Alloa Fair is the local trades holiday around here, although now it is hardly employed as that anymore. This is just a jumble of memories and nonsense set around earlier times when the Fife coast was a favorite for local folks holidays, works outings and day trips. Taranaki Construction Safety Focus Group organised the 2009 Trades Apprentice Safety Challenge event. This practical and interactive competition tested the safety knowledge and skills of trades apprentices aged 18-25 yrs from local trades and construction industries. The competition consisted of 8 x 20 minute activities focusing on safety topics such as working at heights, road safety, fire safety, manual handling, home safety, food handling, physical fitness and electrical safety. Winners received a Master Builders sponsored trophy.

The controversial bill may force China to raise the value of its currency. The US Senate passed the bill yesterday. But it still has to go through the House of Representatives. Chinese officials and state-run media say the bill would hurt relations between the two countries. The Chinese regime accused the United States of trade protectionism, referring to the US bill aimed at forcing the yuan to appreciate. China's Vice Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai reiterated China's opposition to the bill and likened it to the 1930 Smoot-Hawley Act, which he said worsened the Great Depression by invoking retaliatory measures from other countries. [Cui Tiankai, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister]: "Should the proposed legislation become law the only result would be a trade war between China and the US and that would be a lose-lose situation for both sides." Unlike other countries that allow their currencies to fluctuate, the Chinese regime controls the yuan by setting its value and intervening in local trading. Many economists have said the intervention gives Chinese exporters an unfair advantage over global competitors. Nobel Prize winning economist Paul Krugman last year called the regime's currency policy 'predatory.' LOUIS, MO A huge union rally Tuesday in Forest Park is the latest salvo in what's shaping up as a nasty civil war between rival labor unions in St. Louis and it could mean trouble for organized labor. Several thousand workers from various St. Louis unions were joined by union workers from throughout the Midwest and by union leaders from Washington DC They're angry because the St. Louis carpenters union has formed a brand-new local, specifically for electrical workers. That work has always been handled by the international brotherhood of electrical workers, the IBEW. These union members and their leaders angrily charge that not only are the carpenters trying to raid their union but that the carpenters new electrical workers local is paying far less than other union electricians get. There were hints today that other unions may retaliate and go after the carpenters union, maybe raiding their union, maybe refusing to work with carpenters union electrical personnel on jobs. This sets the stage for a potentially ugly confrontation with the carpenters union. "The thing that has always helped the labor movement in general and the building trades in particular is a sense of unity and what we call solidarity. Thousands of proud Building Trades members and other union activists rallied in St. Louis on June 15 to tell local Carpenters leader Terry Nelson and UBC General President Doug McCarron to stop attacking the IBEW and stealing its work. IBEW Local 1 is the gold standard of professional excellence for electricians in St Louis. IBEW members are trained in five-year apprenticeships that certify them as master electricians. Members are constantly upgrading their skills and experience as new technologies are introduced. Singer: Áine Bean Uí Loithe. The story is centered on a young eighteen year old girl called Sive who is illegitimate. She lives with her uncle Mike, his wife Mena and Nanna who is Mikes mother. A local matchmaker Thomasheen Sean Rua decides that Sive should marry an old man called Sean Dota. Sean is rich but old and haggard. Thamasheen convinces Mike and Mena to organize the marriage of Sive to Sean Dota. They will receive a sum of two hundred pounds as soon as she marries him. Sive however is in love with a young man by the name of Liam Scuab. Liam however is not suitable as he is related to the man who abandoned Sives mother when he realized that she was pregnant. Mike refuses permission for Liam to marry Sive on this account. Sive is distraught but is forced to do the will of her uncle and his wife. Nanna does not approve and would prefer her to marry Liam. Two local tinkers by the name of Pats and his son Carthalawn connive together and decide to help her escape from Sean Dota and marry Liam. The plot fails however as Thomasheen discovers the letter and destroys it. On the night before her marriage Sive disappears and shortly afterwards her body is discovered in a bog hole. Liam finds the body and carries it in to the house announcing to Mena and her husband that they are responsible for her death.
