A Closer Look at High-Frequency TradingJan 10, 2012
This is the VOA Special English Economics Report, from voaspecialenglish.com | http Once, stocks were traded through the open outcry system. Today fast, interconnected computers have mostly replaced the traders shouting prices on the floors of stock exchanges. Joe Saluzzi is a head of equity trading at Themis Trading in New Jersey. "The equity market has changed. It's no longer what you see on TV, it's no longer guys with colored jackets running around the floor anymore. .... The equity market is a bunch of co-located computers strung together by a bunch of wires, everyone trying to race to zero. The speed of light is the goal."Computers can process stock trades in thousandths of a second. Andrew Haines of Gain Capital is an online broker. "A millisecond can mean millions of dollars to the success of your strategy. Having a one, two, three millisecond advantage over other traders may mean that you get into a trade at a preferable price." Andrew Haines says an estimated seventy percent of all stock trades are high-frequency trades made with complex computer models. Stocks may be held for only seconds. But fast trades are also blamed for big moves in stock prices. On May sixth, two thousand ten, a leading measure of American stocks briefly fell about nine percent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average then recovered much of those losses by the end of trading that day. The Securities and Exchange Commission ordered steps to prevent future "flash crashes" like that one. Joel ...
The College Graduate Economy + Making A Case For The Trades!Oct 04, 2011
Another one of my very long rants, this one on the economy for us college graduates. In it, I discuss the various options our newly minted high school grads make, and what exactly is the wisest move when it comes to making money and "navigating contemporary society", as our old Baldwin High School teacher used to call it. Is it right to send everyone to college? Or maybe only some? Should we force those who don't want to go into conscription or cheap wars? America is on the mend, and thousands of college graduates are waiting to contribute to the economy.

The Yugioh Trading Circle!Jan 18, 2012
Hello everyone how are you today. This is a video talking about how I get high end cards. The system I use that works. You have to develop relationships with people you trade with. You have to give them fair prices. Sometimes give them free cards especially if they are common. They will remember this and return the favor. Everyone is out to hustle someone else and prices are sky high. for a yugioh cards that won't put food on my table. So develop your own trade circle of people who respect each other and are down to earth. Who do charge high prices. You will then create your own yugioh economy inside the bigger economy. Once you create the circle do not trade outside the circle unless you are getting a good deal.

US--China Trade War? Senate Vote on Currency BillJan 16, 2012
For more news visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ me.lt China is known as the factory of the world for its export based economy. But western countries have long complained that the Chinese regime is giving Chinese exporters an unfair advantage by purposely keeping China's currency undervalued. US Senate has just voted to allow debate over a new bill that could stamp out China's advantage in US markets all together. But the Chinese regime claim the bill will lead to a trade war between the world's two biggest economies. On Monday, the US Senate voted 79 to 19 to open up debate on the bipartisan Currency Exchange Rate Oversight Reform Act. The proposed bill would allow the United States government to impose import duties on goods coming from countries known to be undervaluing their currencies. The biggest of these is China. Estimates suggest the Chinese regime is keeping the renminbi up to 40 percent under-valued, this benefits Chinese exporters. But US policy makers say this gives Chinese manufacturers an unfair advantage in foreign markets. [Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina]: "If they do something better than us, they should win in the marketplace. That's just the way business works. But if the government intervenes and creates an advantage for a Chinese company, that's not winning in the marketplace." The Chinese regime was quick to respond, releasing a statement claiming the US is breaking World Trade Organization ...
Million Dollar Traders - 12_18.flvDec 07, 2011
Eight ordinary people are given a million dollars, a fortnight of intensive training and two months to run their own hedge fund. Can they make a killing? The experiment reveals the inner workings of a City trading floor. The money is supplied by hedge fund manager Lex van Dam: he wants to see if ordinary people can beat the professionals, and he expects a return on his investment too. Yet no-one foresees the financial crisis that lies ahead. The traders were selected in spring 2008, before the US credit crisis gathered pace. The successful candidates were chosen, trained and dispatched to their specially created trading room in the heart of the Square Mile. Among them are an environmentalist, a soldier, a boxing promoter, an entrepreneur, a retired IT consultant, a vet, a student and a shopkeeper. As the novices learn the dark art of trading stocks and shares, the financial markets start to buckle. Making money takes second place to basic survival as the brutal realities of global economics take their toll on the traders. How do they cope? Will they secure themselves a bonus, or walk away with nothing?

Algerian Economy: Industrial, Political and Agricultural Changes (1972)Jan 08, 2012
thefilmarchive.org DVD: www.amazon.com By far, Algeria's most significant exports today (in terms of financial value) are petroleum and natural gas. The reserves are mostly in the Eastern Sahara; the Algerian government curbed the exports in the 1980s to slow depletion; exports increased again somewhat in the 1990s. Other significant exports are sheep, oxen, and horses; animal products, such as wool and skins; wine, cereals (rye, barley, oats), vegetables, fruits (chiefly figs and grapes for the table) and seeds, esparto grass, oils and vegetable extracts (chiefly olive oil), iron ore, zinc, natural phosphates, timber, cork, crin vegetal and tobacco. The import of wool exceeds the export. Sugar, coffee, machinery, metal work of all kinds, clothing and pottery are largely imported. Of these by far the greater part comes from France. The British imports consist chiefly of coal, cotton fabrics and machinery. Algeria trades most extensively with France and Italy, in terms of both imports and exports, but also trades with the United States and Spain. Algeria currently has only one stock exchange, the Algiers Stock Exchange. Algeria's agricultural sector, which contributes about 8 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) but employs 14 percent of the workforce, is unable to meet the food needs of the country's population. As a result, some 45 percent of food is imported. The primary crops are wheat, barley, and potatoes. Farmers also have had success growing dates for export ...
